Hey there - my husband and I are looking to move from the loud, noisy Bronx to a nicer area. We're looking at either Queens or Long Island - still don't know which would be better... I'm wondering what your opinions are on living in College Point, Bayside, and/or Douglaston? We don't have children yet, but still want to near good schools, quiet neighborhood and not too far from public transportation. Ideas?

My cousins live in Bayside. It's a pretty nice area actually. Most of the population there are Orientals and Indians. It's a quaint neighborhood and is quiet. There's a park nearby also.

All three are very nice- though College Point seems a little "isolated" to me (it seems ridiculous to say that about any part of Queens, just my observation) Bayside and Douglaston are very nice, as is Whitetone (where I lived for a long time)

Ummm Bayside is mostly Italian or Korean. I don't know where you get off saying most of the people are Oriental or Indian.

Actually, Bayside is all mixed..there are jews there, too...it's a nice area, in addition to whitestone and douglaston..i don't think i would rush over to college point, however..are you looking for a house or apt.? A house anywhere in Queens is NEVER going for $425, unless it's a knock-down..good luck!

There are hardly any Indians there.

Lots of Indians in Fresh Meadows and Floral Park by Little Neck Parkway however.
