In places like Flushing, near where I am from, I'd even put that figure as high as 70%. Even if our state department said to China send as many people as you can legally, they wouldn't be able to do it. The number of mainland Chinese flooding Queens is criminal.
So you have nothing but your own "intuition" to make such outrageous claims.

A 2007 Fiscal Policy Institute study (granted a bit outdated) estimated that about 535,000 people lived illegally in New York City. So that number would have to have quintupled in 13 years to reach your bogus estimate. Which means your "estimation" is farcical. That same study estimated that approximately 70% participated in the labor force (obviously under the table). Like it or not, the city needs these people to do the bottom rung jobs that keep it functioning.

That study is a labor-union and left-of-center think tank, so even if you think they underestimate their counts, it doesn't come close to your claims.

I'm all for sane immigration reform, but just spewing off random numbers is ridiculous.

Half the population of the COUNTRY is not working:

In 2018, around 155.76 million people were employ

ed in the United States. For 2020, an increase by almost 2 million employed people is expected.

That's HALF the population of the country (327 Million./2018)

Of course many are too young to work, are in some tertiary level education, retired, or are home makers. The labor force participation rate is 83% for people in the 25-54 age range, these being the peak working years. For men its 87%. With unemployment at around 4% that means that 79% in peak working years are working.
