Is the fact that unwashed reusable bags could help spread COVID19 the reason that many stores seem to be giving out free plastic bags these days?

What I still don’t quite get is why there isn’t a shift towards compostable plastic bags. They exist in a lot of formulations including thin ones like the produce bags that Trader Joe’s uses or thicker ones more akin to your average grocery bag. The cost premium for them over regular grocery bags is pretty small and large scale usage of them would mean economies of scale that would further reduce their price.

Because research has shown that many of them don't fully break down and last for many years in the landfills.

Just wanted to post my favorite reusable bags. They are from Uniqlo and only $2.90. They come in a Medium and Large size.
