Looks like tech companies love NYC. With Microsoft having offices by nyt building, Facebook renting from vornado, Google having a NYC HQ, and Amazon building a small office in Manhattan. Apple the maker of the iPhone just landed a new digs next to MSG in midtown. It looks like this office space might be 3-4 floors. Very interesting to see these tech war space expand in NYC. Like Facebook, Apple will be renting from vornado which is one of the largest commercial developers in the city.

The Bay Area is simply not building enough and can't keep up with tech company growth, so we get some spillover.

That and there are some industries that NYC does well in like marketing and content creation which some tech companies want to further expand into as well as people they'd like to have as hires, but simply would not want to live in the Bay Area and would much rather live in NYC. Some of the relocation packages to the Bay Area and to Seattle are just ridiculous, but even then it's a tough sell for some people.

Yes, tech is saving NYC’s hide right now because its other industries like banking and finance is contracting.

Tech spreading out beyond Silicon Valley is a good thing for the industry IMO. If it stays in one place, creativity can be stifled as everyone is in the same bubble.

And no mention of any free incentives at tax payer expense either.

Apple has a number of other locations. They need to set up offices centrally located in all the major sales territory. Northeast Corridor, and California are two biggest ones.

Plus now the rich who owns most of the company can give their children or their friends and relatives children jobs in Manhattan.

Newark’s changed a lot compared to a decade ago. Had friends out there who spanned the last decade and it’s a world apart from what it was before. Not saying it’s all roses, but it’s definitely a lot different and with a good deal of well-paying white collar jobs. Good chicken out there, too.

Biggest thing that could’ve happened for Newark was making the PATH-WTC through-run with the IRT 6 train in the aftermath of 9-11. Maybe one day.

How's the luxury housing? Is it there yet? I can Google but I also enjoy first-hand perspective.
