Most Asian Americans don't have that legacy. They arrived after the 1960s and so benefitted highly from the Civil Rights movement, even though playing a minimal role in it. Asian American companies benefit highly from business set asides in gaining access to public sector contracts. In fact this group benefits more than any other, aside from white women. Asians did NOTHING to fight for such access but aggressively seek to benefit from it. They are very selective in what aspects of affirmative action to support.
And when one looks to the South East Asians, their socio economic performance doesn't look that great, when one adjusts for the human capital (education, occupation, etc.) that many entered the USA with. Cambodian and others are seen as a "problem" group.
Vietnamese and Filipino are Southeast Asian and do pretty well in the US, by the 2nd generation at least.
Many of the "I Love Rudy (Giuliani) cohort will swear that blacks are the poorest group. They will be shocked to know that poverty rates in this groups are the lowest of any nonwhite group.
Look at what is happening. Bernie is failing to get the black vote because blacks remain socially conservative and fiscally center left.

The whole entire black belt or black crescent that stretches from Houston to D.C suburbs with Atlanta as it's center will vote for Biden. The reason why Bernie failed the black vote is due to the fact that Bernie has no black agenda. Also black Americans and even black Americans in NYC from the housing projects to middle class nabes in Eastern Queens. All from what I met and know are culturally and socially conservative, and are no different than their white southern counterparts. The only difference is that the socially and culturally conservative African American votes democrat.
The bold is very true. When I was in high school during the early DOE days. A Jamaican American and an Afro Cuban graduated at the top of the class. Both went on to very succesful careers after reconnecting with them on facebook. I remember reading an listening to an exerpt from pro black actavist, Yvette Carnal who was able to break down a list of black people who out perform African Americans in income and achievment. Maybe African Americans are suffering from legacy of Jim Crow, slavery while blacks Africa, and former slave colonies in the Caribbean and Northern coast South America and Central America dont suffer similar nuance as the American black.
My thing is this. Let NYC give reparations to African Americans, and lets see if doing that will boost test scores after a generation in NYC.

It's easier to make accommodations for those families than to put the rest of the families at risk.

AOC only hangs out with white people who work in tech, VC, PE, hedge funds, and who reside in CA. Her attempts to show that she is a LatinX female are laughable, when in fact she is a "white girl" from Westchester. I bet she doesn't know the first thing about reggaetón or bachata.
She only admits Blacktivists on her list of black people who she speaks to. Latinos are even more conservative than are blacks. Most don't like being called "LatinX".

I know a lot of Puerto Ricans have accents heavily inspired by AAs, but not ones from upper Westchester like her.

Very true. Most black Americans are similar to southern whites culturally and religion wise. Had the Repubs not embraced white supremacy after the Civil Rights Voting Act, they could have owned the black vote for the past 50 years. And they still seem to be struggling to figure this equation out. By the time they learn to put away the confederate flags and make blacks and Hispanics trust them, those two groups will no longer be conservative.
Although I am myself a center-left registered Democrat, I strongly distrust the socialist far left. They don't really want to see blacks get rich. They want to use black poverty as a running indictment on the capitalist system. This is why whenever someone speaks about personal responsibility or culture, the far left tries to shout them down and shut them up. Its why even now, 50+years after the Moynihan Report, black academia cant admit their obvious error in the initial reaction to it. Its the reason why when talking about academic underperformance, they can only allow themselves (and others) to speak of external things like funding and racism, but refuse to acknowledge the contribution of parenting and values.
