It's simply because he just tells the truth.

It's really pathetic that watching a politician speak the truth is so rare these days that people are impressed by it.

In NY probably not for quite a while. In other places who knows. It will vary depending on local circumstances.
It's pretty obvious now that NY is going to have at least a month of hell so I doubt it will happen here any time soon. Cuomo sort of indicated as much this a.m.

Big problem is that in another month the places that are relatively unscathed today might be just ramping up.
Hopefully not but it's a crap shoot.

It's clear that everyone wants to open things up asap but if the body count spirals up and up for a month or more and things get really bad in places in the middle of the country the pictures on tv will be unbelievably grim and people might freak out.

Lol, Trump says he would like all the churches full at Easter. Not gonna happen around here. Maybe in Iowa.

I would be interested to see a comparison of the number of people in hospital beds today (for any reason) compared to the same time last year, and the number of people who have died from illnesses of any kind this month with the same period last year. The raw numbers do not tell the whole story.

Cuomo also could have shut the city down faster. By next week (if not the end of the week) NY alone is going to have more than any single European nations. Had they shut down schools and businesses at least three weeks ago this would have helped the whole country.

So he's latching on to what possible solutions the medical people give him, not matter how unlikely they are to work, and how negative the consequences, and running with them. This at least gives him the appearance of doing something about the situation, even if it's ineffective. And the people who are causing him problems (Trump, Bla, an uncooperative citizenry, etc.) just give him cover when it all comes crashing down.
Most workers will recover, yes. But in the meantime massive envoy damage has been done, especially to tourist and travel industries. There’s still not cure and people who report being infected didn’t say it was the best time of their lives. It has really destroyed a lot and that, along with de Blasio and Cuomo screwups is what truly will bring back the old NY.

You were right about de Blasio bringing back the old NTC. But not through his crime policies. Due too poor disease management.

Try asking that question in 4 to 6 weeks and perhaps then, you’ll understand the gravity of the situation. Or just turn the news on and watch what’s going on in Italy.

Well, you can't really trust the body count either. Does anyone believe the Chinese body count ? Or any of their numbers?
Italy is already saying that they think both the reported infections and the body count are way low.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/italys...-says-official

you could just look at the percentage of positive test results because it wouldn't be skewed by availability of testing or other outside biases.
As of yesterday 28% of the people who have been tested in NYC test positive. In the rest of the country right now it is 8%. So presumably more than 25% of the NYC population is already infected while only 8% of the population outside of NYC is.

Over 630 Americans have died and in terms of infected before the weeks end American will likely surpass Italy. Honestly, at this rate of growth NYC soon will. It already has more infected per capita than Italy.
