Shees, idiots in charge of NYC!
You sound pretty dense yourself if you can't understand what he's talking about.

He absolutely did stress the need for social distancing -- over and over and over during his speech. The reason he mentioned closeness was because he's trying to answer the question about why are we so hard hit. He said we're hard hit due to closeness, which is obviously true.

My advice:
If you don't think closeness is a strength, then by all means leave NYC. Why were you here in the first place. Good riddance!

At least NYC is doing something for its people in terms of evictions.

The big question is if there are going to be further measures; more direct assistance in terms of money to families, and tax abatements, etc...

It will be an interesting year, what would tax abatements, and write-offs do to the National debt of the wealthy nations of the world...

On another front.

Just heard on a French National broadcast about the virus advance in Africa. Burkina Faso has 10 respirator units for a population of 21 million. Third world problems versus ours...

Our existence depends on social distancing according to CDC, WHO and others.

Why does the governor suggest closeness is a good thing and strength, when this contradicts the CDC?

The governor of NY is clueless and the proof is in the pudding. NYC is not winning so far!

That doesn't sound right at all. Are you sure you didn't misinterpret it?

I'll need to watch it. That's a total 180 from what he, himself, has been saying. It's as crazy as packing people together in churches for Easter this early.

As pointed out in other posts, there were numerous larger gatherings after the lunar new year parade in chinatowns despite that the pandemic situation was evolving and affecting other nations. Someone came here early in March to ask about St Patrick’s day plan and I told him there might be no sp parade this year... he was pissed at me, lol...

If you believed that the Chinese parade seeded the outbreak in NYC, you would expect to see many sick Asians from Chinatowns at the beginning of the curve...but as of today, The Asian communities throughout nyc metro do relatively well.

There is a bad spread on Long Island as well, and the Asians are also less infected. It was linked to groups of students/visitors returning from Europe that got sick prior to the curve.

It’s clear that the whole thing started in China and was covered up at the beginning by its dictator president, who deserves to be trialed and executed.... But there was more than enough time left for the US leadership to observe, learn, react and prepare to prevent the epidemic. But they didn’t.

Even to this day, the potus tries to use his ignorant “hunches” and power to dictate how the US handles this epidemic. The top experts on his task force team are left with little say in decision making or felt compelled/intimidated to cover up for his ignorant remarks/responses in the shadow of his power.

He is guilty of indirect mass murder of US civilians as future history will conclude!!

i am so frustrated by the actions from governor and mayor. NYC does not need social distancing. it needs total curfew. It has replaced Italy as the epicenter. the state added 5k cases each day, more than the entire country of Italy

your comments on chinese leadership are ridiculous. China has a lower infection rate than any western country, and has emerged from the outbreak much faster. Life has already gone back to normal there.

Another stupid action from NYC Mayor DeBlasio -

Approximately 300 inmates were released from Rikers Island and other city facilities this week in an attempt to, drumroll, stop the virus spread, because apparently confining potential covid carriers in a closed space is more risky than letting them frolic among the general population. Perhaps de Blasio missed the part where prisoners are already in quarantine, even if one gets the virus.

Dumber they don't get!
