Watching from the West Coast, both local and national media has constantly been covering New York, Manhattan, Elmhurst, Queens. It has been drilled into our heads southern New York is the “epicenter” of Covid-19. People dropping like flies as infected city dwellers flee both infection and disgusting living conditions, spreading the virus to Long Island, Jersey Shore, Florida.
It’s not a good look. City and burroughs look like a dirty Petri dish, filled with illegals and nightmare living conditions. Maybe the following will change as the infection spreads, but as of right now NYC is this country’s Chernobyl, a no-go zone of way too many people jammed together, infection spreading like an out-of-control wildfire. And I believe this impression will stick for a generation, i.e. all the people watching at home in real time.
May also be personal bias. Never understood the appeal of living in a sardine can with no peace, constant noise, and jam packed with potential disease vectors. And residents pay a premium for this abuse. Astounding, truly.
Your post reveals the worst aspect of the human condition. If your honest with yourself what and why did you spend the time to write this ??? It gave you perverse pleasure you sicko.

For generations? Well, history certainly doesn't agree with you sir. The only period of severe depopulation of the city didn't happen due to disease. 2 times if you consider the Revolutionary War, and that was also not due to disease. In fact, so much of Asia and Europe is extremely dense and they don't say things like this. Hope wherever you are doesn't overpopulate to the point that you have to deal with our issues I guess? The US certainly is net gaining population at an incredible rate.

Of course it’s personal bias. Italy also has infection spreading “like wildfire” but you don’t seem to complain about how awful Italy is and how that’s going to stick with them for generations.
Good luck with the virus when you start getting it in your area. It’s not just spread in crowded living conditions, it’s spread at church (see Arkansas) at parties (see New Orleans) etc.

That person was gloating. Gloating at an others despair. From a person living in California where they have chosen to live on an active earth quake zone, plagued by drought and wild fires for God sake. What a sick mind and soul that person displayed.

You lack depth, maybe due to inexperience or fear or a particularly misanthropic bent.
NY is not a cesspool, it is the capital of ambition, for better or ill, and it is living what other cities are experiencing worldwide and because it is such a hub, it has been perhaps more vulnerable this time around. It will recover and thrive.
The only real problem is uncertainty. A lot of people feel the need to lash out at easy targets. We should stay focussed on helping things get better, heeding health professionals' advice. Stay put and be there for your loved ones.
