Because he listened to and believed mr orange man that this virus is just another strain of flu...

Since it is already here and making a mess, warnings no longer are valid but to find your way to pray to survive for your self and loved ones.

The Chinese, with their totalitarian police state couldn't contain it. You do think an open society with a decentralized government would have any chance?

Question Lease expiring soon, what if quarantined for Coronavirus.

In the event of being quarantined at home due to travel or symptoms, what would happen if your lease expires within that time? Are there any general tenant rights provisions that would apply? I also assume if things escalate quickly there wouldn’t be many offers and demand for new leases.

They made it worse by trying to keep it hush, hush and lie about it instead of sounding the alarm so it would've put everyone on notice.

Opinion:

I would use common sense at this time.
If your lease runs out and you happen to be quarantined you are obligated to continue payment to the
landlord providing the landlord is understanding. If the landlord is adamant that you have to leave contact
the CDC and your local government and ask what is your next step. Quarantining should not last more than two weeks.

Very true. But when they decided to slam the lid on, they have a much heavier lid than we do.

FYI my sister in law is a Doc in Florida and said she just got told there is like 185 cases in Brooklyn which may or may not come out tonight, at worst tomorrow morning. I don't know if there is any solid truth to this or not or how there could be that many cases.

kiddo, you underestimate the efficiency of their totalitarian regime. Yes, they tried to cover it up for a good while and missed the best time to control it...but once they realized they needed to deal with the reality, they actually did an extraordinary job in containing it to just one epicenter; there were a few sporadic cases in the rest of the country but once the government started to act, they effectively controlled the situation despite that it was really bad.

What is unbelievable is that the US had almost two months to watch, learn, and prepare to prevent the outbreak. BUT, mr orange man and his team continued dismissing this highly contagious virus with unknown long term health impact as another flu and Dem's hoax to mess up with his reelection; despite having watched the horror show in China in real time for almost two months, they did very little to secure the boarders to minimize the risk. Look how quickly NYC emerged as one of the epicenters of this viral outbreak within a matter of few days... getting ready to to be shocked by the case number rising to >300 by end of next week? I don't see that the government has any clue about how to effectively contain this outbreak yet. The almighty forbid that mr orange man himself will not be infected by his supporters during his reelection rallies...otherwise he would be eliminated rather swiftly not by the Dems but likely by corona...

Default Corona Virus Thread

United Kingdom

According to the Department of Health and Social Care, 16,659 people have been tested in the UK, of which 16,574 were confirmed negative as of March 3.
A total of 163 people have been confirmed positive for Covid-19,
deaths = 2

______________________________

Italy

cases 4,636
deaths 197

____________________________

What I worry about is if the warmer temperatures don't slow it down what kind of worse cases scenarios could happen living in a large Manhattan apartment building?

New York is behind on testing, so far 44 cases as of March 6

They have probably only tested somewhere under 100 people or maybe a few hundred

The sample kits from the Feds were defective so they are rushing to get it together

Worst case scenario is we reach a number where they quarantine the city. I'm wondering what that number could be, number of cases or deaths

The healthcare system could get overwhelmed and there could be food supply problems
--and resources could be affected by problems in other states.

I'm just wondering about the safety of being in the city and if a quarantine happens you can't leave.

This lawyer had an office in midtown so he could have been spreading it to a lot of random people in the public beyond his contact circle who they have quarantined. A woman had been in Iran, she has it

2,700 people are quarantined.

There are the figures from the UK, Italy, South Korea etc but who knows how well they reflect what is actually there

_____________

The number of coronavirus cases in New York state has quadrupled over the last 48 hours to 44, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday.
“The number will continue to go up because it’s mathematics,” Cuomo said at a news briefing. “The more you test, the more you will find.”

____________

Let's say by the end of March it's 5,000 cases or who knows, say 12 deaths and let's say warmer temperatures are have no effect

What if the number of people including those with no symptoms yet is actually 30,000 but they just haven't been detected?

At some point they could quarantine the city. Then there could be mayhem with breakdowns in healthcare capacity and food supply. At the same time resources are being used up by multiple states with this going on.

Is there some point at which you would leave the city? It is so densely populated. It seems like things could breakdown more easily here

Let's get real. This is barely worse than the flu. People need to stop panicking.

In point of fact, the best course of action for most people would be to just ignore it entirely and go about your life. The vast majority who'll get it would suffer little more than a cold.
