My husband applied for unemployment about 10 days ago, after being on it briefly last summer. And he actually received a check already via direct deposit, actually two checks: one for his regular amount, and a second one for the extra $600 (minus some taxes).
Anyway, he cannot find anywhere on the site where you have to requalify every week. Last summer, he had to tell NY state if he had any work at all for the previous week. If he did, some money would be withheld.
Also, now, there seems to be no requirement that he has to apply for jobs in order to keep his benefits.
Has anyone else noticed these aspects, which seem to be new? I don't know if NYS had to simplify things because of the volume of people applying.
I don't want him to miss out on a payment because of not completing something. Thanks for any advice!
You still have to certify each week -- anytime from Wednesday through Saturday -- that you didn't work during the previous week. You can do it two ways:
1) log onto the web site with your username and password (although the online certification tool wasn't working today when I tried it)
2) do it by phone. Call the Dept. of Labor at 1-888-581-5812. You'll need the 4 digit pin number you chose when you first signed up.
I filed for unemployment for my parents 3 weeks ago no one has contacted us I’ve tried calling many times and been unsuccessful do we have to re apply?

I assume you filed online. Did you get a screen saying that the application(s) went through? Did you get a screen saying someone from the DoL would call? Is one or both of them freelancers? Has the money gone into their account?
