NY definitely wouldn't be as bad as it is now if Cuomo had acted earlier. But at the same time, after that blunder, he did do a great job. I don't even like the guy, but it's clear he has done well since then. I mean, idk if that makes up for his blunder at the beginning that led to the crisis we're in, but FWIW he's definitely had one of the best responses in the country.
Also the blame can't fully end up on him constantly. We knew international travel spread the virus. Flights from Europe were not stopped quickly enough even when we knew that Europe was becoming the next problem. Once they did stop, the government chose a select few airports to funnel all the people through. JFK LGA and EWR were all chosen. Funneling all those possibly sick people into our region far more than any other region possibly led to the spread as well. First, all the people cramming into the airports could've infected each other. Then they also could've infected the airport staff. That airport staff likely takes public. transit and could've infected those on the trains. Then they infected their families when they got home. And it just spread. But I do think the fact that JFK LGA and EWR receive such a high number of flights from Europe added to our problem.
Now, could that problem have been lessened by closing earlier? Yes. Cuomo acted too late. But it was not entirely his fault. It wasn't like Iowa or Nebraska that currently have high infection rates (but comparatively low raw numbers) who just chose to remain open and do nothing about the virus. It wasn't like Louisiana which allowed Mardi Gras to continue on despite fears of coronavirus making its way through. New Orleans doesn't get the flights nor does it have the population of NYC, but it has a lot of density and extreme density during Mardi Gras, but they allowed it to go on. That could've been stopped. That was a huge blunder. But again. their governor did a good job at fixing his mistake. Similarly, I think Cuomo has done a good job of fixing his mistake.

But no, I still objectively do not like him.
Stop this nonsense that covid came here from Europe. They did very little to no sampling in Queens, which is the epicenter. Anyone with half a brain knows that virus started in Flushing with the Chinese and travel from Wuhan for lunar year parades. Many Asians in NE Queens were sick back in December and into January and were also aware early on before the rest of us about the virus outbreak back in Wuhan. It then spread along the 7 train line into Hispanic areas like Elmhurst. Sure, there may be both strains in the city, but this crapola the virus came here from Europe is garbage. While Manhattan would have European strains because that's where the tourists go, the rest of the city caught it from China. No Europeans are visiting Corona, Queens.

Cuomo MUST pay for those nursing homes. I can give him a pass on some of the other things but the nursing home situation is NOT forgivable. It angers me that this guy may very well get away with murder but this can't be forgotten.
Like it or hate it the following is only my opinion:
His mom is not in a nursing home. She's resides in Manhattan...........
My immobile relative with no visitors except for my wife and I contacted Covid 19
and is now in Hospice. Onece the city shut the doors to visitors and we have never
contracted the virus Who made contact with my relative? Doctor,Nurse,Caretaker?
The Governor also slipped in a bill (If not mistaken) that would not render any nursing
home, medical facility or hospital culpable if a patient dies as a result of the Virus.
Any remote chance of you trying to establish patient neglect is now tossed out the window.............
So much for taking care of our Elderly...................
Oh I know she's not in a nursing home. As if he'd let his mom stay at a place where she's highly likely to contract Covid, yeah right. People make up excuses for him but I refuse to. With the city locked down, there were too many places the people who were Covid-positive could go. The entire nursing home situation is a mess.

Typical privileged person. It's okay for him to make this kind of decision because it won't affect anyone in his family.

He's not anything near to a socialist. I don't get why people on this thread link him to this and/or democratic socialist. He's to the right of the center politically. Have you and the other poster who made a similar comment forgotten how he illegally tried to halt people from being able to vote for Bernie or Biden? He was trying to make it so that Biden could just get a free pass. Very sneaky on his part.
