There's an artifact of the 1811 map survey still in central park. One of the original intersection markers from when the city laid out the street grid.
My old Brooklyn block in Kensington had ancient unmarked manholes on one side of the street, along with ancient valve covers stamped 'Water'. Apparently they were remnants of the Flatbush Water Works which served that part of Brooklyn until the city water system reached the area.
