I do think NYC is in for a worse decade than the dismal for NY 1970s or even the 1980s.

Between covid and riots, it is reducing itself to simply what people fear about urban jungles, w/o any offsetting nice things to offer , for a long time to come.

It's not that kind of curfew

The curfew prohibits gathering in groups after the time, you can still be out on your own with no involvement in the riots or looting. There is even a specific carve out for groups of essential workers

1970/80 would be hard to come close to, but the city is in for a major dump. The middle class is running for the exits. The city is already broke and now companies are bailing along with the wealthy who supply the majority of the tax base.I just hope there's another Guilianni somewhere in the wings and the people left have the good sense to elect him

I'm one week away from leaving this hellhole for good. Never been happier. I was sick to my stomach watching the revolting NY politicians (and other politicians in other states) defend rioters and violence, even if not vocally. The fact is, rioters basically got away with NO POLICE presence at all in NYC and the police are not even allowed to do their jobs.

This entire country is a disappointment, but I sure as hell don't want to live in NYC where problems such as these are multiplied in their intensity. If you add to that cost of living, taxation and nothing to show for it, no wonder so many of us are leaving.

Every GD thing from supermarkets to convenience stores are shut down by 5PM or 6PM, sometimes maybe 7PM. If you need milk, or something better get it before then otherwise you are SOL.

Usually avoid stores during day because they are too crowded and hate all that stand outside waiting/social distancing BS.

Now guess will have to get up early and hit places when they open at 6AM to avoid rush.

Another thing, this 8PM curfew is largely a joke.

Plenty of people walking around outside on UES well past 8PM. Standing or corners gabbing, jogging, walking Fido, some even jogging *towards* Central Park.

Will give you by 10PM or so things finally shut down totally.
