I really don't think so. As long as they're allowed to protest in a timely manner, they don't have to be allowed to protest whenever they want.

Edit: below is a link to an ACLU guide to what kind of government regulation of protest activities are allowable or not (in their opinion.)

I would rather have protests be illegal w/o registering first, and pre-paying in bank checks, a $5,000 per attendee security bond. Have the damage assessed afterwards, and return the excess to the folks registering.

If the crowd exceeds the registered quantity, use the pd to end the protest and return $0.

In regards to this city, it did at least get 50-a repealed which makes some sense. It still remains to be seen if this means the necessary budget cuts and streamlining the city will need to make will now at least be equitably shared with the police department and corrections which were originally projected for a very minuscule cut compared to other departments. The idea of reshuffling certain duties that ended up in the NYPD catchall also makes sense. I think the other thing I think would make sense, but isn’t a huge component of the protests is the legalization of marijuana and sex work.

They can have their 1st Amendment rights to protest, but only during the day.
there has been virtually no looting after the initial first few days of protests. There have been proets going on daily in New York since June 1. Since the city is on lockdown they have not interrupted traffic too much which would be much more if we were not on lockdown.
People are not going to school and work so there is also a lot more free time.
Will it make the COVID cases go up? Not sure yet but it's not only that, in the past day a lot of people have been violating the social distancing and hanging around on the street in front of bars, no masks etc.
22 states have upsurges in cases

Look up the Boston Tea party and the March on Washington of 1963

These are not the same protests as Occupy Wall Street. These are national and having a huge impact

In New York they have accomplished that the Governor has given the counties of New York 9 months to come up wit their individual plans on how to budget and redesign the police departments.

You may not like what they accomplished and want the police department to remain as it is but what they accomplished is remarkable.

But keep in mind if crime goes up or down in a particular county the period leading up to that 9 month deadline in by April 2021 then it may likely effect the redesign it in each of the 62 New York counties.

Crime is likely to go up because crime now is lower do to the COVID lockdown.
