Another extremist elected in New York City for the Democrat party, unseating powerful Elliot Engel in the 16th district of the Bronx and southern Westchester County.

This man is a self avowed socialist who believes there is widespread "institutional racism" and "keeps majority of us oppressed".

Watch out people, because you're going to get what you voted for

Quite frankly, there will be zero meaningful difference for the community in terms of how Bowman votes compared to Engel and, thus, zero meaningful difference for the lives of the people of the Bronx and southern Westchester County.

Bowman is merely more vocal about his socialism and thoughts on "racism" than Engel is. But they are both cut from the same cloth where it matters.

Quite frankly, given how the Democrat Party likes to race bait, the only shocker to me is that Engel was able to hold onto his seat in what is a "minority majority" district for so long. Similarly, I was shocked that it took someone like AOC (of the same ethnicity, etc.) so long to defeat Joe Crowley in NY-14.

Yeah a big shrug from me, another dinosaur career politician put out to pasture.

I guess some of these old Dems thought they'd get eaten last.

Not surprised. They showed pictures of a bunch of dumpy people in Yonkers lined up to vote for him. I doubt any of those people have ever waved an American flag. This is the radical leftist base. Trash.

The traditional Democrat approach still works: Tell people they are victims with no personal responsibility for their own circumstances ... and they will vote for you! (...as long as voting requires absolutely no personal effort!)

Also, freely promise whatever seems convenient or popular at the moment. Don't worry about fixing or changing anything, "since voters rarely expect politicians to keep their promises anyway!"

(The latter is why Trump is such an enigma to the Democrats ... and why they they can't seem to grasp that nominating any old, party-line politician for POTUS - is not good enough anymore.)

People who believe there is institutional racism are dangerous? To you they may be, only if you also believe there is but it suits you. Getting rid of so called of institutional racism can only be a threat to... guess what type of people? Don’t worry buddy, equality means equality, not taking from you to give others more rights. I can somehow understand your fear of being on the other side though.
But yeah... Trump-minded people are not extremists at all right?

I am 100% for equality, but I will not let you or your cohort get away with unsubstantiated accusations of institutional/systemic racism. These claims are always general and short on specifics. Institutional means official policy, and systemic means broad-based and integral to to the system.

Where is your evidence? Or is everything bad that happens automatically because of the color of your skin

Not automatically, Yet too often. I used be kinda like “non-black immigrants we got it hard too but we don’t complain”. Having a black wife opened my eyes wide, a talented woman in her industry who is constantly questioned just because she’s black, always suggested to other brands and street wear because it’s “more black”, when she excels at more classic things. only to eventually be told “wow you’re eloquent for a black woman”, are you kidding me???? She has to work ten times harder than your average dumbass Becky or an Asian person (who, are automatically assumed to be rigorous, studious, good at math and whatnot...).
Then comes the “wow, good work, you’re ACTUALLY really good !”... duuuuuuh why do you think I have all this in my resume !!! Again, it was assumed that she must not be really good, guess why??? But white girl who came yesterday from Minnesota they’re forcing her into a position she doesn’t fit in because dad and mom called or because she “looks” better for the position.
There is an AUTOMATIC assumption based on skin color that you can’t speak/write/think properly.
And it doesn’t always come from white people, Asians too (especially Indians, they’re know to despise blacks and marrying a white person is an upgrade to them), trying often to get her to train dumb rich white interns who don’t know ish about ish until they know just enough to oust her.
Also formerly living in mostly black neighborhoods of Brooklyn, And actually (unlike the suburban white hipsters) integrating into the community And working in the community I’ve witnessed first hand what your average black person goes through. And I’m not even talking about the poorest part of them even your average middle class black person.
I see the way the same persons we interact with on different intervals treat her as opposed to how they treat me, it’s flagrant !!!
But if you’re an older white person who never lived among minorities and never really interacted with them and only listen to what Sal ans Joey say at the pizza parlor and Nick from the diner you wouldn’t know.
All the way to the way she was served a salad at a restaurant after seing à really lavish and apetiizing salad next table (rich white parents whith their Daughter a Fordham student), the same salad on the menu, for her came half the size with barely anything on it, it’s every day, and it comes out with a lot of passive aggression too.
A cop asked her (and not her non black friend who just did the same thing), why she went through the luggage door of the subway because she had a bulky bag AFTER he SAW her swipe, he harassed her to show and prove she has a metro card, not her friend...
And I just gave you examples of EVERYDAY stuff if I had to list everything I’d be here all day.
And I’m gonna have black children with her so yes I will do what’s right for my offspring so they can be tested equally.
And please don’t try to bring excuses or tell me that’s the exception , you don’t know, and what do people do when they don’t know?? They’re not expected to give a realistic opinion on a topic that doesn’t directly affect them !!!

And, considering that you are not black, are you seriously going to sit there and tell us that this is not the exception?

I've been black all of my 30+ years. This is not something that I go through regularly, at all; at least not from white people. It's way more common to have other black people pull some of that crap with me ("you talk white" if you speak proper English, among other things). While admittedly anecdotal, the same is true for my immediate family members.

I won't knock your wife's experiences. If this is what she tells you, I believe her. But, it is anecdotal. I'm happy to share my experiences, but I don't try to use personal anecdotes to suggest something systemic.

No, I'm not giving you that and I have heard enough of what you say from others to believe that this sort of thing can be prevalent. But what you describe is not systemic or institutional racism, it is individual ignorance and racism. I don't condone it and I think it's completely wrong and immoral.

I mean I guess the only way to combat that is awareness, and I can see how the protests are trying to promote that. But at the same time, the protests are claiming everyone is racist who doesn't go out of their way to give black people a leg up.

I think people absolutely need to look in the mirror and check themselves on how they treat black people, but at the same time I think the black community has to make an effort to meet people half way and work to eliminate these stereotypes that come from cultural aspects of inner city youth, specifically on views of doing well in school and not taking responsibility for bad behavior. The worst stereotype of a black kid is the "dindu nuffin", and that pollutes a lot of people's thinking when they stereotype the whole group

I think there's a middle ground here somewhere where a critical mass of people can agree on what the problem is and how to fix it
