Africa's population is over 50 times New York state's population.
Even with a younger demographic in Africa, you have to assume that Africa's over-65 age population must be at least 10-20 times NY state's over-65 age population?!
Similar argument for India.
China is even less of a difference, since they have an older demographic than Africa and India, and a higher life expectancy.
Also, in large parts of Africa and some parts of India, Ramadhan and Eid were celebrated by massive crowds.
Many African countries had absolute zero social distancing or curfews in place this whole year.
Also note that there are around 1 million Chinese citizens living in Africa (many involved in construction and infrastructure projects). Not sure how many of them travel back and forth every year, but several people in this thread seemed to assume that Africa does not get many foreign tourists and visitors. China also has a major military base in Dijibouti and leases large amounts of arable land in Africa.
Places such as Kenya and South Africa are major tourist hubs.

Two obesity, diabetes and heart disease are major risk factors. The average African is less likely to suffer the above problems for obvious teasons.. Ditto India..
America's poor response to the virus in the initial days and the large percentage of unhealthy Americans meant that this virus was going to hit the US hard..
