I was in Katrina. I got lucky and was picked because of my military background. Spent 2 weeks down there. Good memories.

By passing judgement of guilt on an entire police force because of the acts of some in uniforms should have required more examination. Did anybody not realize the consequences? Now communities that were in the greatest of dangers because of current and ongoing high crime but protected by police will suffer the most. Yes.... the police kept neighborhoods that required help... in check. Movements pushing for defunding the police department of one billion dollars have now led to more cops being taken off the streets resulting in higher rates of murder.......Sad...........

Think.......please think............Put our cops back on the beat..............Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
You are only hurting yourself and your community.........

What is your opinion?
Curious minds would like to know....
Abolishing police departs MAY be worth a shot (pun intended). I say don't knock it until you try it!

I don't see how they could unless it was incentivized somehow. Minority cops would be sent to neighborhoods that generally lean "bad". How could a policy be legal which ensures that minority cops all get stuck working in bad 'hoods?

Not really being sarcastic. This is how the extreme left thinks. A white girl can call a black cop racist and "systemic racism" makes it true. To the normal person, that makes no sense at all.

The bolded, and a criminal justice system which currently does not punish anyone except for the most egregious of crimes. NYC/NY don't just let petit larceny perps back out on the street. We let robbers back out to rob again, the next day. This is a SERIOUS mistake. In my opinion, robbery is the best example.

We treat perps with kids gloves here and cops are considered the enemy.

What other outcome can there be besides rising crime?

De Blasio blames coronavirus while NYPD chief says new restrictions caused crime wave

Mayor Bill de Blasio largely blamed the coronavirus for the bloody weekend crime wave in the Big Apple — as the NYPD’s chief said the problem is much more complex, pointing to anti-police sentiment, bail reform and cops feeling they’ve had their hands tied as among the reasons for the sudden surge of violence.

Do the math, we're far from Chicago, and again, why do guns circulate so much in a city with such a high budget??

You can google and read all day if you'd like about NY's bail "reform" law. I guess you aren't from here? It was massive news for months before covid.
