Not gonna happen, majority of NYers still brainwashed in the same dogmas about Republicans or any other party than Democrats. People haven't woke to the fact that city has been deteriorating for decades. The only thing masking is was the economy, people that were well to do and have jobs are ignoring the rising homeless and drug problems.

If I still lived in NYC I would, hell I voted for the Republican candidate in 2017 just to try and get DeBlasio out. Unfortunately it didn't work.

That’s unfortunately what they end up running. Big Bird is hated enough and there’s enough of a split among the more progressive and more centrist Democrats for there to be a fairly easy opening for a non-Democrat mayor, but the GOP just runs some awfully milquetoast candidates for no apparent reason.

I have never voted for a Democrat for mayor of NYC.

And if today's progressive wing of the Democrat Party is a sign of how things will be down the line, I never will.

Trump has ruined the GOP brand. There used to be moderate sane right-of-center Republicans throughout the Northeast, including here. But the crazies have driven nearly all of them out of the GOP. Until that changes I don’t think there’s a snowballs chance in hell that we’ll see a Republican mayor in New York.

Even though I consider myself a Democrat, I would have no problem voting for a moderate Republican like the governor of Maryland. Actually I'd much prefer a moderate Republican than the extremist Democrats who are increasingly winning in smaller races in the NYC political arena. I don't like extremists of any variety, so for me MODERATE is the name of the game.

This is what MD Gov. Hogan said:

I am a moderate. I've been focused on trying to avoid the extremes of either party. And to find ways to get Republicans and Democrats to lower the temperature and stop the arguing and the divisive, angry politics. Trying to find bipartisan common-sense solutions is why I was elected governor in a state that only is 26 percent Republican. Because a huge percentage of Democrats and a majority of independents thought I would be a good governor and work across the aisle.
