What a fkn way to live..... so, so glad I’m gone!
What’s wrong with the gate? Confused. Seems pretty sensible to me. Just how we have locks on our doors. It’s very unfortunate what happened to that posters wife but it’s not likely his wife would have gotten to a gun in time. So unfortunately it is a bit of a straw-man.

Glad to hear common sense still exists.

there is no such thing as common sense rationalization when it comes to individual situations .
the same as none of us will ever use our fire insurance , long term care insurance or term life insurance or need it , many others will or could have benefited from having it if they didn't .
each situation is always going to be unique to them .
you can't determine what would or wouldn't have applied to anyone else.
humans only have 2 outcomes , regardless of statistics .the bad stuff happened to us or it didn't since it has to happen to someone . is it you at some point ?

I was referring to nooyorker agreeing that having a gate on a fire escape window is common sense. I should have been more clear.

the proximity to 1 police plaza let you pick up your purchase order at nypd when it was ready , scoot over to the store to make the purchase and yet get back to 1 police plaza in time to still get it inspected and registered ...not to have to make it a 2 day process was nice.
they had limited hours for both at licensing so typically it would take 2 days to complete

What’s wrong with a gate on your window??? You’ve succumbed to the abnormal becoming normal mindset the besets long time NYers. Around my way people still leave their doors unlocked and windows open. It’s normal to assume that you are safe in your home and that you don’t need window gates to secure your home.
And we will never know if that home invasion would have turned out differently if the victim had access to a firearm. If it were me chances are that perp would be 6 feet under right now.

Why does anybody bother installing locks on their doors and windows then in your neighborhood if they're not required?
