if police cant do their jobs cuz excessive force
if prosecutors cant do their jobs because revolving door slap on wrist
well pandemic hits protests
defund police, while "good" intentions means less cops
How am I suppose to provide evidence of unethical behavior that nobody would ever admit to?
I KNOW that policing has been scaled back. I used to hear police copters flying overhead regularly where I live, and there were "towers of powers" (surveillance towers) stationed up and down Church Avenue. Then all of that disappeared 2-3 years ago.
People who've been victims of shootings or seen an uptick in violence have said that they've noticed a lack of policing. In fact, the mother of a victim of a recent shooting out in Flatbush said point blank that police have deserted the area:
Again, how do you provide "evidence" for unethical behavior that someone would try to hide? You think the NYPD would leave a paper trail or other tell-tale signs showing that they've stopped policing?
I live in the South Bronx. Helicopters? Rarely heard those. Take that West Coast **** somewhere else.
Over 300 shot in July. ...1996 averaged about 240 people shot a month.
This is the problem John Benson. Because we started the first 4 months with such low shooting numbers, even with this mid 90s summer level shootings, is only matching us with the early 2010s. The first 4 months shootings were Wayyyy down, record low numbers. It doesn't paint an accurate picture to look at the year to date.
The over 200 shooting incidents for June, July, and most likely August are 1996-1997 level shootings. 1995 was higher, and 1993 and 1994 way higher (I think twice as high as crazy as it sounds). You have to look at the trend.
That's like scoring 30, 40, 50, 50, 90, 100, 100, 100 on exams. Sure the average is just 70. But it doesn't paint the picture that you have been the best student in the class.
I dont think this level is sustainable. NYPD already has anti crime back using different names. More gun arrests and gang takedowns will remedy the issue, but I just don't think its accurate to portray this year shootings as 2010s.
If we had even an average shooting year from the start, no doubt the years totals would be like 1997.
This is true but kinda inaccurate. NYC is at 1k shooting victims. Which is the average it had until 2014. The year DeBlasio took over. So I don't think this is a spike as much as there was a dip.

I live in East Flatbush near the border of Brownsville. There were copters flying overhead regularly for several years, presumably because we started seeing an uptick in shootings around 2008, including the murder of a corrections officer just two blocks southeast from my house.
