I hear nothing now, but in my old apartment we'd hear the Chinese kids get beat. Lost of Cantonese being shout too.

I used to here a lot of crying but that was just the woman having sex mixed in with moaning. It's usually that and arguments.

I'm guessing that's what it was, because she was known in the building to be dating an elderly man in the building (both in their 70s or 80s), and she said to the doorman, "We're in love!" like a little schoolgirl.

2. Yap dogs barking incessantly.

3. Slamming shut the closet doors.

4. Music.

5. TV.

6. Typing.

7. Kids running around at 2, 3, and 4 a.m.

This was an Indian family, and it was summer, so no school. The whole family was up till dawn. I went over to complain. I had to speak to the little girl, as the parents apparently didn't understand English that well (or pretended not to).

8. Woman's high heels clicking across the hardwood floor.

Some of the joys of living in a condo that was converted from an apartment building.
To the bolded: Really? I don't even want to know what you think you heard. I will NOT ask how the sounds are different than any other kind of sex.

Off the top of my head:

Talking
Yelling
Screaming
Laughing
Sex
Kinky sex
Banging
Exercising
Walking
Parties
Music
Tv
Porn
Opening/closing doors
Toilet flushing
Water running from sink/shower
Cupboard closing
Dogs barking
Kids playing
What sounds like people bowing
Smoke alarm going off
Alarm for the emergency door
Phones ringing
Alarm clock
Notifications on cell
Persons conversation on phone
Whatever noise is coming from the hallway

People bowing? You mean bowling?

The walls must be onion skin thin to hear notifications on the phone. I hope you get some periods of peace and quiet.

Nothing too exciting. People yelling, and the TV, but neither very often thankfully. For a while one of my neighbors would regularly scream like she's being murdered, to the point where I assumed she's being abused and wanted to call the police. Only, I could never tell which direction the screaming is coming from. But a couple of times her screaming was more words than usual, and apparently she wasn't being murdered at all. She was just really mad at someone (her parents? and her boyfriend?) Thankfully that family moved out eventually so the screaming matches stopped.

Oh, wait, there was also the buzzing. Our upstairs neighbor had a habit for a very long time of making some kind of loud buzzing on the floor after 9 PM. I guess it was some kind of floor cleaning machinery. Anyway, they would set up right over the kids' bedroom, and go over the same spots over and over again, a couple of times a week. That was annoying...

Oh yah add to my list, neighbors door buzzers.

On your point through, perhaps they were vacuuming. I vacuum my sofa and floor around it after every time I'm done eating. And no I'm not that messy of an eatier, I just don't want to risk any critters.

I'm actually still mystified about what it was. It definitely wasn't a regular vacuum, didn't sound like those machines used for waxing the floor, and didn't sound like a Roomba driving around. It sounded like a very small lawn mower, but that really can't be right.
