Gotcha. That makes sense. I can't think of any reason why anyone working crazy hours would want that commute if they didn't need to do it.

The office antics.

But, I like having alot more time to see my kid. To cook. And I am saving a lot of money not commuting and spending money on those mid-town breakfasts and lunches.

After all this, I would not mind doing a sort of split week,..3 days Work home, 2 in office.
Yah! I went to work once in Sept. It was nice to work on a faster computer, bigger desk. No one was on my floor so it was creepy. But e-gads, by the time I got home, I was exhausted and wondered how the heck did I ever manage commuting 10 hours a week. I'm glad my department does not have to go back to the office in any capacity until at least 2021. We will remain working from home.

you should look into remote logins.

I use my normal computer at home and just 'log in' to my juiced up one at work.

The office is basically an expensive midtown storage for our machines now. It could be anywhere.

I have VPN when I need to, but I would rather work directly on my desktop than work through VPN. My computer at home is definitely not as fast as the computer I have at work (cause the one at work was purchased in Feb 2020). The VPN speed would be limited to both my internet connection and my CPU processing power at home. It also is somewhat disorienting. Finally, for whatever reason, I can't check certain links when I am logged into VPN. So in short, I only use it, when I absolutely must connect to the network or be behind the firewall. Most of my work is cloud computing so I don't need to.

The problem with wfh is cats walking in front of my computer, wanting to be in, then out; teenagers bothering me during the day, having to make my own lunch which also means I don't have much time to prepare the variety I would normally eat. I like everything about going to work except the travel time.
