NYC DOT

Tents & Enclosures:
(excerpt)

Restaurants will also be permitted to use tent enclosures to keep diners warm
New York State outdoor dining guidelines permit installing a temporary or fixed cover (i.e. awning, roof or tent) so long as it has at least two open sides for airflow. Of the two sides that need to be open, one must be parallel to the roadway
If at least the two sides are completely open, you may exceed 25 percent capacity as long as existing outdoor dining guidelines are followed, (i.e. 6’ between tables, no more than 10 people seated at one table)

If fewer than the two sides are completely open, the occupancy limit will be capped at 25 percent capacity, and all indoor dining guidelines must be followed

Enclosed structures, such as plastic domes, will be allowed for individual parties and must have adequate ventilation to allow for air circulation

For restaurants with roof structures, the city will be releasing tips and guidance on how to make them secure, as well as quick action to remove snow from roofs, awnings, and tents
The City will allow restaurants to incorporate heating elements into their outdoor dining setups
Only electrical heaters are allowed within the roadway setups
Additional restrictions apply to restaurants in New York State Hot Spot Zones

Have you observed restaurants following this? They have theses boxes some with sheets of plastic as walls. If they don't keep some sides of those structures open for ventilation it's a potential incubator for COVID.

Yeah, I've seen this and had the same thought. What is the point if you are going to eat in an enclosed plastic bubble? Maybe this is more risky that dining inside in a large area.

Just walked past several restaurants in forest hills, and wondered if they were compliant with outdoor dining guidelines. Now I can say with confidence they are def not..
One was fully walled off on all 4 sides, others had enclosed tents

Hmmm So it’s not okay to dine indoors unless the indoors is outside.
