Shaking his hand while on duty and wearing a Trump hat purchased at Trump Tower (also while on duty) is one of my 2020 highlights.

He won this supposedly "very red" district in 2018. And the opponent he lost to - I've heard nothing but bad things about her, and still he could not beat her. No, I do not think he has what it takes to win the whole city.

Staten Island is a different animal from the rest of the city.
de Blasio got less than 30 percent of the vote there to Malliotakis in the last election and still won.

Max Rose won in 2018 because he caught SI republican voters unawares. Plus the liberal, transplant, progressive democrat machine that got AOC and others elected put efforts into the race as well.

To be fair Donovan (like democrats AOC, Ritchie Torres, Bowman and others displaced) didn't take the threat of Max Rose seriously. His campaign was lukewarm and he came across as not putting much effort into being reelected.

Again Max Rose used the same playbook as AOC and others his first time around; the guy was all over the Island. Knocking on doors, standing on street corners, at the ferry... introducing himself and glad handing any and everyone.

Aside from a sliver of North Shore nowadays SI has historically been one of if not the most conservative areas of city. Minute Max Rose sided with BLM and "defund LE" movement his goose was cooked on SI. Hint: when your district contains large numbers of NYPD, Corrections, FDNY, Court Officers and or those who have family members in uniformed services, it isn't a good thing to march with those calling for busting LE or whatever.

Max Rose might as well have done a photo op bringing Eric Garner's family a muffin basket.
