Stop acting like there are no slumlords in NYC. There are plenty of them, so the answer is YES, plenty of them do, regardless of the law.
Here we go... Listen, I don't support these draconian lockdowns by the likes of "Il Duce" (aka King Cuomo), but shutdowns have happened across the country in Democrat and Republican run states, so it isn't gubment to some extent. It's the pandemic. NY is one of most densely populated States, so that's part of the issue. That said, I do think that restaurants should've been able to re-open since transmission rates are so low. That would perhaps curtail some of the gatherings at home, but inaction is just not an option. Is that you're proposing? That we have NO lockdown, no social distancing, and pretend that there is no pandemic? What's your solution? And before you call me a Liberal, I'm a Republican and big Trump supporter. When I'm out in public, I use common sense. Social distance outside. Mask inside.
My solution is 100% inaction. I'd open everything back up tomorrow. You still think everything going on in the world right now is due to covid? The powers that be are decimating the middle class to create a massive underclass of future socialist voters. This isnt some american phenomena. It's happening EVERYWHERE. Back to america: All those decades of our country being sold off piece by piece to foreign interests by our political/upper/ruling class is finally coming full circle. Enjoy the declining ride.
I'm all for helping people in need, but why isn't there more assistance provided by the government, with costs spread more equitably to pay for it? When people can't afford food, they get government assistance to buy it. The grocery store isn't mandated to provide free food.
Try to get financial aid or anything else provided by the govt by just writing a letter telling them you need it. I guess it's different when it's someone else's money.
Can the landlord turn the heat down below legal limits, not do repairs, not exterminate for roaches and bedbugs? There are costs associated with housing people beyond paying the mortgage.
I keep telling you all this over and over and over again
The decorum comes from the top
So when you ask why weren’t certain things put in place, there’s your answer. There was no plan

Obviously I meant legally. If a homeowner loses their job, they're going to turn the heat way down to try to hang on and pay the bills. If they have a 2 family with a non-paying tenant, they can't even do that (legally). If you stop paying your oil company, they stop delivering oil. Why not mandate that oil and utility companies keep providing heat during the pandemic for people affected then? Why does the buck stop only with the owner? And why not suspend property tax payments too?
I love it. Property prices will take a hit. Will be cheaper to buy.
The clowns running this city are destroying it. All they know how to do is give out free **** , in exchange for votes, to their bum, uneducated constituents.
The neighborhoods that were in the process of being gentrified are in the process of getting crushed.
