I understand.

For a city that’s known to have “tough” people I find it funny that we are seriously having a long convo about a murder rate that is below the rate of 5 per 100,000.
Exactly. Every big city had a increase in homicides since the virus shut everything down. NY is still the safest big city. Other city's are hitting 30 20 and 10 while we won't hit 7.

LA also hit 300 for the first time in a decade.

Yeah, it's the virus lol.

Couldn't be the fact that cops have smartened up and are letting certain hoods do their thing (as the people want).

Let it burn. Whether those suffering care to admit the cause or not.

No. Even in NYC murders and shooting started increasing under the pandemic. The police are irrelevant. They can't stop someone from killing. They can only arrest the suspect.

The entire criminal justice system has collapsed in every democrat-run city nationwide. From fearful-to-act cops, to leftist DA's, to (in our case) state legislatures making punishment and incarceration a thing of the past.

Keep hanging on to that belief my man. Like I said, as long as it stays in the hoods that wanted this crap, most people won't care anyway.

I highly doubt Brooklyn or Bronx shootings/murders will touch us in NJ once we ditch this bizzaro city for good.

Do not blame violence on the pandemic or white privilege, or any other extraneous circumstance. Being poor doesn't make you a criminal. Your skin color doesn't make you a criminal. Being brought up with no accountability, love and support from those closest to you, seeing others use poverty, race, etc., as an excuse to lie, cheat, steal...that creates criminals.

We all know what has to be done. We did it for two decades to spectacular effect. But we've lost the political will to do it. The election and reelection of the idiot Deblasio. is a demonstration of that.

I'm hoping that with a mayor election coming up, the current mayhem will p**s off / scare enough people that their will be a demand to go back to the policies of the Giuliani/Bloomberg era. We'll see if the city electorate will snap of the SJW stupor and elect someone who can get it done.

I wonder how anyone can still think that defunding the police was a good idea...
Because the police haven't been defunded, they are just not doing any good. Put the money into programs that actually work. The cops are little more than clerks, reporting crime after the fact. Ever see a news video of a murder scene? Half a dozen or more cops standing around talking, getting overtime pay for nothing. Ever see cops responding to a mob of wilding teenagers? You won't, because they don't want to get hurt. They only act if they have superior numbers. It's been that way in NYC since the 70's. Maybe tie funding and compensation to results like they do in other industries. And break up the police union. It's a culture of cops committing crimes and other cops either participating or not speaking up to do anything about it.

It’s cyclical because people forget history. The city got very safe and people got spoiled and began being woke and worrying about the plight of criminals, inconvenienced by stop and frisk, etc.

It will take more than a few years for the public to get fed up. Remember we had to go through a good part of the 60’s, all of the 70’s, 80’s and even 90’s before there was public will to do anything about it.
