Bayside or Jamaica sure, but definitely #1 melting pot of the universe in places like Jackson Heights and Astoria
I'm not super familiar with Jackson Heights, but I did not see any Hispanic and South Asian mingling when I was there. Not even among the US born teens and 20 somethings.

I’ve traveled to other cities and I don’t feel like nyc is segregated. As a black man nyc is one of the only few places where black areas does not = having a black population that is 96% of the area like in many other cities.

What do you mean by mingling cause if they are first generation immigrants they probably won’t mingle because of barriers but here in Midwood south Asian Americans and Mexican Americans always hang out.
The thread hasn't started yet. You said NYC is one of the most segregated places in this country and I am asking you personally before everybody else why is it this way, how did it come about ?
So yes, the thread backfired in the sense some of us thought you might have an answer but instead you seem to have decided not to answer it. So this thread is done, mission failed
Sanmen answered for me: human nature. We are drawn to our own. Fyi, my picture is from your leftist nyt. Have fun defending your own.

I meant US born. I'm not saying it never happens but I don't see Hispanics and South Asians hang out in Kensington and I don't see Hispanics and East Asians hang out in Sunset Park (even if they play each other in handball)
I find that Mexicans usually hang out with other Mexicans or at least Hispanics.
I would say that people hang out predominately with people of the same ethnicity as them aside from maybe hipsters. And of course there are groups like Orthodox Jews who only hang out with each other.

Ok, so you've researched the foundations and history of New York City and have determined that people always had the choice to live wherever they wanted but they choose to live segregated.

You have a good point. Desegregation of schools has been attempted but not desegregation of housing which is a lot more fundamental.
Not just in New York but in many places, somebody also pointed out Chicago, even more segregated.

Because groups develop their own cultures...The way they act, speak, cook, dress, walk...the way they treat each other.
And other groups are simply not attracted to those things...So, they stick with what they like...What they are familiar with...
And let's face it...they are attracted to people in their own group...
