A safer way to scoot about your neighborhood being pitch to the city Department of Transportation by Superpedestrian, whose leaders hope to bring LINK to specifically low income communities in the outer boroughs.

LINK was one of the 15 shared scooter companies who submitted applications and has made the final round before two to five companies will be granted permits to operate 1,000 or more scooters each. None of these will be allowed to operate in Manhattan under the program.

The company is first looking to provide the service to transit desert communities in the Bronx.

“Desert” seems to be the latest lefty hot word.

Food desert
Pharmacy desert
Hospital desert

No one ever looks into whether it is true or not, just call something a desert and so be it.

What could possibly go wrong with placing pricey scooters in high crime areas?

Todt Hill, one of the wealthiest areas of NYC, is considered part of a food desert by NYC. The city doesn't take into account the lower population density of Staten Island. Todt Hill is a large area of large 1-family homes which screws up the city's stats.

That's my first thought as well. I think someone from Superpedestrian needs to live in one of these neighborhoods for research purposes and get out of their startup cocoon.

I remember they used to have one of those Snapchat Spectacles vending machines in the Oculus. Someone from Snapchat must have done the most basic research on that location and decided there was enough foot traffic to justify putting that machine there. If that person just dug a little deeper, he would have realized all that foot traffic was commuter traffic. If you go during non rush hour, the place was dead. Anyway, this is what I think about this e-scooter plan. Poorly researched.
