People who think NYC is hunky dory are delusional.
We have a bid $24,000 over asking on a house in NJ right now and I expect to lose it. It's insane.
It’s amazing. We locked in our price in late 2017 to build new. I could sell it now and make enough to buy a low end Ferrari. It’s a glorious thing for sellers and owners not buyers.
This is like early 2000s when people fled cities for cheaper suburban living that gave rise to the McMansions. Then once the economic bubble popped the people then fled the towns and back to urban cities for work. So who knows how long the jobs will stay remote, it can be as much as 5 years+ given the amount of companies that already declared full-time remote. It can't be recalled without huge implications so it's possible that NYC, SF, and even Seattle will stay dead if the migration of workers continue.
The trend now is people getting a remote job where ever they are and moving to a state without lockdowns and high crime.

Thankfully I sold high here in Staten Island, so the pricing is sort of relative to me. Regardless, I'm getting a bargain compared to NYC. But, that's only if we can win a damn bid! There's people bidding all cash on houses where I think I'm strong putting almost 50% cash.

That's because you're not going too far west or south
Hang in there

I wish I could go North actually. I love New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. I'm not against all liberalism. You know I hate the south, mainly for political reasons. But man the extreme leftism of NYC is no longer tolerable to us. I wish my damned ex would move now too.

You really wouldn't like most places in Vermont if NYC is too liberal. NH probably a better a fit. For example, I believe they allow guns on the floor of the state house there. Enjoy.
Vermont is actually an alloy of liberalism and conservatism in a neat hilly package. You get both sides of the coin. The nice thing is you can escape the rat race there.

I wouldn't say that a state that elects Bernie Sanders at an 85% clip and was one of the first to implement social healthcare has a lot of social or economic conservatism. They do have a republican governor who is sufficiently anti-trump to not be thrown out on his ass.
However, sometimes what people mean by moving to a more "conservative" area is just a more white area, and Vermont certainly is that.
