Manhattan = 5 mins on the F train.

Brooklyn will probably be 30 mins+ depending on which way you go

Roosevelt Island is in the East River (technically a tidal strait, but it's named river ), between Manhattan and Queens. The Island stretches from the Mid 40s to the Mid 80s, and is narrow, though still part of the Borough of Manhattan. Access is via tram at 59th Street & 2nd Avenue, subway, and via car from Astoria, Queens. On the island, there are shuttle buses (red) that traverse loops that connect various points of the island to the subway and tram.
