Nothing like watching at a theatre. I'll be there if they're open.

Its funny how trends change.

I remember when the LCD HDTVs first came out and they had slits for vent holes at the rear top and the LCD backlight illuminated through them casting a halo effect on the wall around the TV. Everyone complained how it was distracting. Years go by and TV manufactures found a way to remove the halo effect. Now people are putting lights behind the TV to enhance the experience lol .

I went that route with the a Govee model. I mostly use it as accent lighting due to I did not want the kit with the camera sitting on top of the TV.

As a prewarning, dont peal off the entire strip and stick it to the back of the TV. Just do half inch strips 12" apart just incase you want to remove the strip later. The glue is strong and the strip can easily break when trying to remove the strip to reposition it.

Let us know how you like it

My TV is not mounted to the wall, it's on a TV stand

So I'm just going to put the lights on the wall behind the TV to silhouette it

For best acoustic quality, cant beat a Sound bar (mono) and a disco ball.

I live in an apartment, so while I have a decent soundsystem with subwoofer, I have to respect my neighbors' peace and quiet. Not going to hit theater levels of sound even on a Friday night.

Sometimes, you just want a group experience. I usually go either (most of the time) to rep theaters like Film Forum, where the crowd is usually respectful and appreciative, or to ”big event” movies, where loud crowd reactions are part of the fun. Honestly would seem kind of weird to me to be sitting alone in a home theater watching something like Endgame for the first time. But to each their own. A lot of older films, especially non-English-language ones, just aren't available on streaming and may not even be available for purchase, though.

Dont forget the popcorn stuck in the seat fold, and the 2 gallon unfinished cola stashed below.

Nice. My theater room still has an 80” 1080p screen with 5.2 surround, but it’s nice and close viewing, just outside the screen door effect. So no HDR but still immersive, and I have something like 300 movies purchased on Apple TV plus other streaming services. Watching Godfather II at the moment.

What all theaters should be doing is offering massive discounts to entice people back.

I was one of the last people around to be going to theaters before the shut-down, and it was one of the safest placed to be, totally empty.

You raise many good points-but you overlooked the biggest advantage. Being able to pause for a bathroom break.
