This is so bizarre. That they're not allowed to open because I pass by the martial arts studios all the time and...they've been open for quite some time. How come they can open but group fitness classes can't. smh. It doesn't make any sense... I thought they've been open all along.
Under the city’s reopening guidelines for gyms and fitness centers, group fitness classes like yoga, pilates, and barre, aren’t allowed to resume due to the risk of spreading COVID-19.
People close together indoors breathing heavily are high-risk for transmission, and the larger the group, the more dangerous. A gym that installs good air filtration and requires both distancing and masking at all times might be OK, but most places aren't like that. I'm not even going back to my building's gym, which DOES require masking, until either I get further along in the vaccination sequence or it gets warm enough that we can prop the door to the outside open again to ensure lots of air circulation.

Eh I'm back at the gym. They require mask wearing but most only cover their mouths. I wear mine properly. But can't control what others do. I'd rather go to the gym then not so it is what it is.

If you're working out with a mask on, might as well have sex with a mask on too, that's how I feel
I don't go to the gym (I work out at home) but if it was me I would have altered my exercise routine to outdoors mostly or just in my house.

Gym is a direct health tradeoff, which is why for a long time it was the virus-riskiest thing I did. It makes a lot more sense to take on some additional risk to work out than to go to Applebee's, so it's a tough individual judgment. But you don't need group classes to get a good workout.

People need group workouts to make a living. This ain't about you or me.

In all honesty the gym is probably more sanitary now then it ever was in normal times. At least at my gym, everybody I notice diligently wipes down their equipment, wears their mask diligently, and stays away from others. That didn't happen in normal times, and there weren't enhanced air filtration systems. Gyms in pre-COVID days were Petri dishes of germs and viruses.
