Yea it’s overall down , thank god . It will likely stay in this similar range tho but it’s not bad because There will always be poverty , even the “ middle class “ is just a temporary illusion for most. However most of Queens I’d consider middle class .
Poverty rates are down currently thanks to all the cash federal and state government is throwing at people for covid "relief". When that ends (as it surely will), many if not most will go right back to being busted again.
You all are forgetting who many are racking in unemployment plus that extra $600 or $300 per week, did you forget about that? Then there were a few rounds of stimulus checks that were handed out to anyone with a pulse including prison inmates and homeless.
People who barely made minimum wage flipping burghers were getting $700 to $800 (if not more) per week. Do the math......
There are some disgusting areas of the ues. You guys are far from perfect.
Rich heartland of UES defined as Lexington or Third avenue west to Fifth from 57th to 86th, then north of 86th to 96th from Park avenue to Central Park is fine. Yorkville east of Third avenue and above 86th until you reach Spanish Harlem is a whole other world.

It’s true about it feeling like a different world but more so in the terms of it being a more balanced and not as rich as the heart of UES . I think the area is pretty dead and quite which is good , it’s a small isolated part on the deep fringes of the neighborhood.

Poverty is morally neutral. A system that creates poverty is not. Nor is hating or having contempt for people people. (That strategy, by the way, also does not have the magic effect of keeping you different from them when you're only a few degrees away yourself, as many people seem to believe.)
$600/week for 52 weeks would be ~$31,000. Taxable. Total bank for Manhattan!
Those who live in the projects are not poor. Puhleese.
