How much time do you spend in nursing homes to be able to speak like this? Pre-covid I would be there 3 to 4 days a week.
My zip code growing up prolly has the highest percentage of adult homes and nursing homes in the city to population ratio, 11691

My point is I know a little bit about nursing homes

Let me ask you this - if you had a choice and you were older and needed 24/7 care, would you rather be in your own house or a nursing home?

And I'm not cold-hearted! I just look at things logically but that does not mean that I don't have a heart.

We would all choose home but that is not possible many times for loads of reasons .

i can tell you with my dad there was no way anyone of us could have taken care of him in our home .

usually by the time snf is needed it is well beyond family .

how it typically plays out is a family member gets hurt trying to move 200 lbs of limp flesh if they are moving someone paralyzed from a stroke and they are both in trouble or the person becomes violent with memory issues and someone gets hurt ...

the best way to bust up a family is have one sibling step up to the plate and take in a parent who needs care . odds are the other siblings step back and the battles begin .

usually the person providing the care takes a monetary hit , a career hit , a social hit and maybe even loses a job .

if you have a spouse odds are you can kiss that marriage good bye once the spouse starts on why do we have to do it and sacrifice so much and your brothers and sisters do nothing .

one of the worst things parents can do to their kids is drop their long term care burden on their children .

remember we are talking people who need a snf , not in home care or assisted living .

SNF? What is this acronym?

Other cultures with extended families, this is not a problem

It's more American bastardization.

NYC was destined for a downturn eventually. It cannot keep growing without the proper mayor and governor involved in improving infrastructure, social services, and business attraction.

You can't keep raising taxes and expect the employees to pay for all the socialism. It doesn't work down the road.

Forget covid, technology will eventually render all the taxations of NYC unenforceable when people work remotely.

The only reason people couldn't work remotely because the employers were given tax breaks but not employees. People eventually will find their paychecks worthless when the taxes keeps going up and getting nothing back in return.

It takes something prolong work stoppage like covid to push the tax base slowly out of NYC. Sandy couldn't do it because it wasn't prolong.

Now, companies are gonna figure out how to create offices elsewhere to accommodate for their workers that relocate and help them change them with taxes.

The 1st I would do is get rid of any progressive loonies from running the NYC council, mayor, and the culture of preserving the poor people here. Start becoming business friendly, restructure the nyc and state tax code. Cut expenses and costs. Improve transportation, nobody wants to spend 2 hours a day commuting into the city anymore.

It only matters if you are actually in nursing homes and see the residents regularly.
It's like you think they deserve to die because they are there. Until you lost loved ones due to the governor shhh. Try loosing dozens.

No one in my family has ever gone to a nursing home.

We take care of our own. Literally not a single person.

My wife's grandmother died two years ago at 104, she was living with my in-laws who are almost 80. My aunt takes care of my grandmother who is 96. My mother bought the house across the street so she can be involved as well.

Even those who've been in hospice care - it has always been handled at home.

Never will a member of our family be relegated to a nursing home or guardianship.

This mindset extends to those who need financial help as well. I have adult family members living with others because they fell on hard times for whatever reasons. That's the definition of family, and I will never accept the term "privilege" as a degradation of our hard work and commitment to each other.

That's great your family is close and helps each other out but some don't have family or are close or even on good terms. It's different for everyone in every situation.
