For once I agree with this woman. If you see some animal attacking someone unprovoked you should try to help the victim, if possible. There are just way too many angry and deranged people on the streets just looking for an altercation. These sick bastards need to be taught a lesson. Maybe a pipe across the face would teach them a lesson.
If the city allowed handguns and concealed carry I'd be all for it. With the current laws you're literally coming to a gunfight with a knife.

Not true at all, in my experience. If you see something unfair (e.g.: someone beating a child or an elderly person), the natural reaction is to intervene.
What makes people not react is the knowledge that they will potentially get in trouble if they do something to help the victim. The legal system and the media might go after them. And they may not even get as little as a "thank you" from the victim they tried to help.
That's what make people think very carefully before getting involved.
Just do it as the Bronx does. Grab your Machete before you leave your home.
