Quick question -

Any suggestions on best places in the city to live strategically for a driving commute to Long Island.

I will be working in Garden City area. Partner working in Midtown. Generally driving east early in the AM (6AM or so), coming back to the city probably between 4 and 7pm depending on the day.

We are currently in Manhattan but planning BK/Queens move. Early 30s yuppie types, no kids, budget flexible. Prefer the city life, and dont want to move to LI, we don't really want the suburban type life. I will be planning to drive (slightly unpredictable time schedule and move around during the day to different sites, so car is really a must, dont think train would be workable).

We wanted to look at areas that would be as close to Manhattan as possible, but have a somewhat strategically easy to drive out of the city to Nassau, so far thinking of:

- Long Island City
- Williamsburg/Greenpoint area

Any other ideas that can optimize the drive as much as possible?

LIC makes the most sense to me from a commuting standpoint for both of you. It's a very popular neighborhood for the 30s crowd as well.

I would stick with Queens. You're doing the reverse commute, but you also want to he in an area where either you have a parking spot or can find street parking. I would avoid Brooklyn and stick with some areas mentioned like Forest Hills. For commuting it will be excellent for your significant other. A plethora of transit options to Midtown. Partner can take the LIRR, express buses in if they don't want to deal with the packed subways along Queens Blvd (I wouldn't). Depending on where in Midtown, the LIRR is a very quick ride into Penn Station, otherwise, the express buses are fine too. I agree with the other areas Coney mentioned, save Astoria. The only thing I question about Astoria is the parking situation. Otherwise, that would be fine too.

Response: Opinion
Any decent neighborhood along the Belt Parkway
from Red Hook to Valley Stream. In addition a scenic
ride fore days which become congested.
Best Wishes.
