Was shocked to look on the front page of today's NY Post to find out an old neighborhood friend who was the head of the 107pct in Queens killed himself today. Just one of those guys you grow up with that never had a bad thing to say about anyone and just minded his own business. I wasn't even aware he had risen so high in the NYPD.

For all you cop bashers and haters out there, cops are regular people that like the rest of us reach their stress points where they just can't cope with life anymore. When you deal with the worst of NYC society on a daily basis for 20 years, it takes its toll on a person. This guy had a nice wife and family but felt he was better off dead than dealing with the "job" and all it had become. So next time you at a BLM rally screaming at some cop just standing there, just know it adds up.

That must be devastating for everyone in the precinct and everyone who knew him.

Having seen far too many police suicides, and now being on the other side (ie, retired), I just can't fathom how these guys let the job consume their life, literally to death. Just quit. Plenty of work out there for motivated people. We have one go at this. NYC doesn't deserve the lives it consumes.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully, his family finds comfort during this horrific time for them.

So sad.
QueensGuy72, I agree. But these people don't care. They look at things in a simplistic, binary way: good/bad.

For them, this gentleman was a LEO, and therefore "bad". Automatically. Add to that the fact that he was white and a man, and he had "bad++" status. Regardless of who he was as a person.

It's really like a religion. But a particularly extremist and intolerant one.

I wonder if this guy was on any meds such as anti-depressants? They can lead to suicidal thoughts.
I agree with Airbourneguy, killing yourself over a job is just silly.

That's awful. Did he leave any indication of what he might've been going through at the time?

I may have missed it but I haven't seen anything anywhere where it says this guy's suicide was job related.
Everything i have seen give no reason so maybe it was something personal as most suicides are.
Cops do have a higher suicide rate than the general population but a lot of it might be because they always have a gun handy to act on their suicidal impulse.
Suicide isn't as convenient for most people.

What if it's the only job you're qualified to do and you owe alimony and child support?

Another common reason is being black mailed or extorted by a mistress.
