The City Council voted unanimously on Thursday to approve a 14-story mixed-use building in Greenwood Heights that would bring 134 housing units to Fourth Avenue.
The site between 24th and 25th streets currently features a one-story building that houses a Dunkin’ Donuts, but will now soon feature retail space and the apartments — 33 units of which will be earmarked as “below market rate” under the city’s Affordable Housing Program.
The green-light comes as Councilmember Carlos Menchaca — who holds outsized influence on the matter as the area’s city representative — gave his approval, citing the local community board’s 25-to-16 vote in favor of the project in November.
You could have been driving by and just stopped there. What did you think of working in Sunset? I think it would be an OK area to work if I were a cop. Enough crime to keep busy but not as bad as some other areas.
Now, not then. It was pretty busy. Never a gun hotspot but knife fights were a near daily occurrence. It's definitely active and a great place to learn. Being that it has transformed so much, Sunset is also a perfect example of why long-time NY'ers refuse to listen to carpetbaggers that cops aren't needed.
Good subway at 25th. But such an ugly neighborhood.
It isn't that bad.
I work here in Sunset Park for the last 21 years, and like it very much, it is easy to get to and from home. I have always found it to be safe.
But, WTF are they talking about Greenwood Heights???
This IS Sunset Park !!!
4th Ave is not the prettiest, but the side blocks are nice.
We have all the usual places to get lunch, and there is a new park at 43rd st and the water, somewhere for us workers to go to stroll for a hour.
A place to learn is just what I was thinking. Residential, commercial, factories, docks, highway. What more could one want? Is the 68 really considered a country club?
