Certainly explains why it will be a far slower track back than many in NYC think. The restaurants, coffee shops, etcs depend on the approximately 1 million NYC visitors daily, pre covid, Monday-Friday, due to work.

I used to take Lirr for 35 min and then e train for another 12 minutes each easy every day.
Wfh is so much better. Saves me time and money.

I hope to never work in the city again. The hell with the commute, people running over each other and the overpriced lunches.

Perhaps the MTA should restore some discounts for those buying multiple rides in advance (in particular on the subway).

Agreed. My hunch is -33% (1 in 3) is the peak new normal, and takes a few years to reach. I doubt it reachs -50% Metro North or LIRR by 9-30, 5 straight days, btw.

Restaurants will. Many closed. Need weekday, 8-5 business. Particularly as businesses are not looking for bargain pizza, but often ordering expensive lunches for dozens of staff at a time. Grand Central businesses largely remain closed. I doubt the ex employees prefer that..to having jobs.

And none of us will miss the city. The nyc comptroller will no doubt miss our $$. My office is letting a 800k a month lease expire in feb. they already cleared out the palce and landlord offered them a 200k reduction in rent for 10 years. As much as city folks hate commuters. It’s huge revenue and now all that $$ is staying in our local counties.

Naw the negative burb people who put down NYC constantly yet have nothing else to do but go on the NYC forum can all stay put in their wonderful burb life. We"ll keep NYC to ourselves or to people who actually want to be here.

MTA needs to fire staff to right size. Just as restaurants properly have done. Just as stores properly have done. It is a matter of it, not when, it gets done.

Cuomo & BDB will need to hike taxes to overcome the permanent massive shrink in revenue generated by non locals.
