Democrats have long had a massive edge in citywide elections, but that’s not stopping Fernando Mateo from making a run for mayor as a Republican.
Mateo said he had been waiting to endorse a Republican candidate, but when no one he could support jumped in, he decided to run himself.
Mateo said Democrats have a lot to say and a lot of vision, but fail to execute on their plans. He said another eight years of Democratic rule would “sink our city.”
“Anyone who wins the primary will be a continuation of seven-and-a-half years of de Blasio, Mateo told NY1.
“We lost the glory days, the 20 years of Republican governance,” he said, referring to the administrations of Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg.
Giuliani ran on a single issue, crime fighting not a whole republican platform. Bloomberg switches around parties.
Neither really represented conservative Republicanism that much. New York continued to be a liberal city during their administrations.
Nobody was complaining about the crime rate in New York until recently. The crime rate today is similar to 2011 but seems to be on a rapid incline
Old article about Fernando Mateo. He is Dominican. If anyone knows anything about Dominicans it is that many hold very . . . extreme views about Haitians and Blacks in general. I will let his words speak for themselves in his older interview.
Seems like a blow hard with an audience... if he were to say dont pick up 3 shifty looking males, that would be something else... outer boroughs black car service is supposed to pick up pre called jobs,no?

Which I always find funny given that they are mixed heavily with black, but they are racist towards black people. lol Now that some have faced racism, they are waking up a bit, but there are still plenty with racist attitudes. They still cling to that whole Spanish hierarchy BS. The Spanish had a racial pyramid system, and in that set-up, blacks are considered the lowest of the low, and the Spanish are supposedly on top, hence why Dominicans cling to their Spanish and taíno mix more than their black mixture, despite the taínos being heavily wiped out by the Spanish. I mean we're in 2021 now, not 1800. Ridiculous to still harbor such attitudes, especially given that they are black. Yeah, they speak Spanish, but even their Spanish is heavily influenced by their African background and mixture with the Spanish.

Was it you that mentioned awhile back on a previous thread, that you knew a colleague or acquaintance who insisted he wasn't black all the while sporting a full on afro?

Not I, but that Mateo guy definitely has a fro when he lets his hair grow. lol
It is not uncommon for people in the Dominican Republic, of some who look just like African Americans to not call themselves "black".
In Africa from a different perspective, the same outcome, people usually identify with their ethnic or tribal background not skin color terms used in America
Sammy Sosa then and now. Doing his best Michael Jackson impression. And no I don't mean singing/dancing Thriller.
