Eastern Brooklyn [with the exceptions of Greenpoint and Williamsburg] and much of the Bronx asides from the eastern and northern portions.

'Good' areas butt up against 'bad' areas within a few blocks so that is impossible to answer. But, judging from the friends and family I've lost to car accidents vs personal attacks (5 to 0), anywhere in NYC is going to be safer in comparison. Just a fear reality check.

This seems to be a popular question. The answer is, it's completely subjective. Any neighborhood where you feel comfortable is safe. And if you don't feel safe there, stay out of that neighborhood.
