Sightings of rats and mice for that matter always increase in spring. It is when juveniles (especially males) are pushed out of nesting areas to look for new spots of their own and or find mates.
Waiting for "Q" at Union Square this evening noticed more rats scurrying across track than usual. Sure enough most were smaller young fry, and or chasing after potential mates.
Rest of it yeah, will give you rats are out and about more in certain areas than during past year. But this is also do to restaurants and other commercial activity that deals with food bouncing back. More full trash bags and food on streets (thanks to outdoor dining), means return to easy pickings for rats and mice.
