Hello
we live in brooklyn. our neighbors have huge weeds that turned into trees very close to our fence and wall. the weeds seem to attrack a lot of mosquitos. in addition, the branches are blocking the light in our house.
we repeatedly asked the neighbor to cut the branches overhanging on our side, with no result.
Does any one know the law on such issues (weeds and light)? What are the neighbor's obligations? what should we do?
thanks to anyone who can provide some info or advice.

If the branches are on your side you are allowed to cut them yourself. I can't understand why they wouldn't do it if you have asked them. I'm glad I have nice neighbors. Good luck.

I know the law where I moved here from is that you can cut the branches that are hanging on your property, but unless there is a neighborhood ordinance or something you can't make them remove the trees.

get some large scissors and go out very early one morning and get to cutting. How much is that really going to cost?

Also, do you know in fact that the people living in the home are actually the owners and not tenants?

Hi, yes the neighbors are the owners. and the cutting would cost 75 bucks -it's not just a few small branches.

If your neighbors wouldn't do any cutting when you asked them, you'd have to say it's not likely they'll pay anything for you to do the cutting. You'll just have to do it yourself...or live with their weed-tree hanging there by your house. Incidentally, trees don't attract mosquitoes. There must be some standing water nearby.
