Oh, Lord. I guess I'm lucky. I limit myself to only two subway lines (the 7 and N) and I haven't seen any homeless people like I did last year. So...I thought things were getting better. Guess not.
Though the worst health crisis in a century seems to be abating in New York City, the homelessness crisis that predated COVID-19 continues to rage on in the city’s subway system.
As the Big Apple makes the vaccine readily available and many return underground for work and other outings, the fallout is apparent on both subway platforms and train cars.
Individuals doze in sleeping bags as hordes of shoes pass by while others tuck themselves into blankets and lay on benches. However, the scene inside the trains themselves can be even worse.
From inebriated, shoeless vagrants slumped over in a daze of unconsciousness with their feet resting on crumpled newspapers to men sitting in a pile of trash and strewn food as the carriage gently rocks its way to the next station, it’s clear the recent increase in human traffic has done nothing to impede the platforms, winding tunnels, and trains from becoming makeshift shelters.
Somehow Giuliani and Bloomberg were able to keep the subway homeless problem in check. But NYC's current woke progressive leaders have no clue how to handle it.
Either you start locking them up (which is state law not city law), or you put them in shelters that nobody wants in their neighborhood anyway, so you're just going to get a bunch of protests
The reason why Guiliani and Bloomberg appeared effective at curbing the homeless issue was because of what are called "cluster apartments"
When you see how much cluster apartments cost to operate, and who was profiting, then you guys will realize why it was such a failed attempt

WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST WE DO WITH THEM? AND DON'T ASK ME IF I VOTE. I DO.
WE CAN'T FORCE INSTITUTIONALIZE THEM. THE BLEEDING HEARTS WONT ALLOW IT. EVEN THOUGH THIS WOULD BETTER SERVE THEM TO GET THE HEALTH CARE, FOOD AND SHELTER THAT THEY NEED.
Why does America have such a high homeless population despite having so much resources at their finger tips?

Eh, maybe we can convince more people that institutionalization as part of rehabilitation is actually the better use of resources which doesn't have to be along party or ideological lines. We do have to also at the same time convince people that the funding it requires is also important even if you've got people shouting about handouts.
I'm for it. It doesn't necessarily need to be done as a ****show of piling money into shady private operators who skim off the top and add on to the degradation.

Open back up the asylums, reason why they were being closed is because the patients were getting physically (sometimes also sexually) abused
