We need Giuliani to start stopping and frisking potholes cause he fixed up the streets in the late 1990s. Remember how bad the 1980s was with potholes. Now its bad again. Lock all the potholes up. Keep giving these potholes bail reform and they're back on the street again.
Or just maintain the streets like municipal governments are supposed to. You pay them to do it and they don't. Yet everyone accepts NYC's malfeasance as if you deserve it.
I'm telling you from firsthand experience, you don't realize how life truly functions until you leave NYC.
Did you drive in Long Island lately ? It’s not limited to NyC, the roads are pretty bad everywhere.
Yah but I'm guessing certain members only get joy from complaining about problems in the city.
Most of the complainers don't even live here, like the Op who lives in NJ.

Serious question - where have you been in the lower 48 that gets substantial snowfall that doesnt have pothole problems? Last time I drove to Atlanta (3 yrs ago) I was shocked at the amount of potholes going thru DC, and that was on the highway

NYC roads certainly have factors working against them, but the shoddy repairs, constant cutting into them by private companies with no supervision, and lack of concern for quality is not to be ignored.
Find me another place where paving a single street is a months long process: first they grind it, then weeks/month later they pave it, then for some reason, more months pass before they paint the lines.
About 2 years ago it took local politicians going nuts to get Richmond Avenue on Staten Island painted after a paving job. This is effectively a minor highway with multiple lanes, turning lanes, intersections, etc through major residential and shopping areas and this city - supposedly obsessed with traffic safety - couldn't be concerned with painting lines. That makes sense to you?

NY sucks over all. Your tax dollars are wasted on social justice nonsense and squandered in pay-to-play schemes that are considered par for the course. It's not just NYC.

The roads aren't bumpy in NJ? If so I'm impressed. I drive in NJ 1nce-2wice a year so I can't attest. Last time I was in NJ, I was in Jersey City, definitely had to avoid a pothole or 2.

I'm sure Newark and Jersey City are close to NYC quality, but you'd be shocked out in suburbia how well taken care of everything is.
Now this is more likely to be the case
City vs suburb, regardless of state
Don't buy into the hype of anything
These people come on here every day with complaints like the City Council watches this
Meh
I'd take a pothole over Hurricane Sandy debris anyday
Do you know how many slow tire leaks I caught from Sandy, nail in tire, etc
At least a pothole I can see to avoid it
OP is only complaining because he can't afford to leave NYC entirely.
It's like eating at a restaurant that you know the food is bad, but you keep going back and eating the food, and complaining about it, and on top of that, you're telling us you have no other choice but to eat the bad food and complain
Like its on some really whiny alley cat s--t now

I remember one of the few good things DeBlasio has done is repave a lot of major streets more often then previous administations, not that it matters when the speed limit is reduced to 20 mph anyway.
