My favorite doughnut so far is from Wegmans. The plain glazed doughnut.

Peter Pan's are pretty good.

Dough is just ok, they're too bready.

Items from Donut Pub and "fresh" Dunkin Donuts are good options as well

Yeah, I agree. My favorite doughnuts are the plain basic ones. Glazed, Old-fashioned, or chocolate glaze.

A fresh Old-fashioned really hits the spot.

I haven't had Wegmans' donuts, but given what I know about their baked goods selection, I'm not surprised by your review. When I'm back on the east coast, I always try to get some of Wegmans' soft baked chocolate chip cookies. While amazing right out of the box, putting those bad boys in the microwave for 10 seconds takes them to a completely different level.

Exactly. For me the real question is "Who makes the best reasonably priced doughnuts in NYC?"

I scale a good doughnut 0-10 ( 10 being best ) by the level of acid indigestion.

Great tasting along side a cup of strong coffee No indigestion = 10

Slight but pailess and able to finish the doughnut indigestion = 8

Bent over pound the table belly pain indigestion = 5

Fall on the floor call me an ambulance indigestion = 0

Hahahaha..................
