...the worst is that the New York State Penal Code, Section 35.15 IIRC, states that one is allowed to use physical force, but not lethal force, to retrieve their stolen property, to prevent property from being stolen, to prevent assault or, to forcefully detain someone observed to have commited assault but, the cops would reliably arrest the person detaining the criminal, rather than the criminal, sometimes even in the face of overwhelming evidence.
If bail reform isn't going to be fixed (because bail reform essentially renders cops useless), then Section 35.15 needs to be upheld, so that citizens can fill in where cops aren't allowed to.
But in all honesty that psycho looks weak and frail. Why didn't anyone kick his a$$? Throw his sorry butt on the ground and kick him in the ribs a few times. That will teach him. And I'm sure he'll think twice about acting up again after suffering a few cracked ribs.
Got rear ended on a busy street in Brooklyn the other night and I flagged down a passing cop car. They asked if anyone was hurt or if anyone was getting violent. I answered no and no, they laughed in my face, said "we don't do that anymore" and drove away. I was stunned. Leftist utopia is here.
Just fyi, that one is an actual policy, not cops ignoring you.
Funny, I had that exact same experience at the post office a few years ago, when I got someone impossibly unhelpful and rude. She said the exact same thing when I told her I was going to complain: They're not goin' to do nothin'.

So you got rear ended, why did you call the cops if the other person did not leave (hit & run)? You don't need a police report to file a claim. How bad was the damage, what was the estimate?
