"The city’s jails employ five correction officers for every three incarcerated people — a ratio seven times higher than the national average. Some 7,575 correction officers oversee approximately 4,389 detainees, as of July 9.
Yet the city recently passed a 2022 budget that provided for an additional 400 correction officers.
There are plenty more people in the city who need incarcerating.
Exactly. Tell these politicians to start doing their jobs and locking the criminals up. It's amazing that we are seeing a huge surge in violent crime, yet we have statistics like this with the jails.
When you do away with physical strength requirements for a job that truly needs it, then yes you need 5 officers for every 3 inmates. Pretty simple.
Or, instead of letting violent criminals out, we keep them in. That would balance the ratio out.
