The pressure is on to get a vaccine. Not only for the NYPD but for health care workers and students.
There's going to be push back, I suspect. But de Blasio is pushing hard the vaccine mandate over the mask mandate. Makes sense?

Since the start of the pandemic, thousands of workers in the city's uniformed services have been infected with COVID-19, including more than 11,000 in the NYPD alone.

Thursday, it was suggested to Mayor Bill de Blasio that many of them believe they don’t need the vaccine, having acquired sufficient antibodies.

“This is in the category of, ‘Give me a bleeping break,’” the mayor said. “When did everyone get a medical degree? You know, I'm sick of everyone armchair-saying that they know more than the doctors.”

The comments were part of an abrupt change in tone this week from the mayor, who's voiced frustration at New Yorkers who still refuse to get vaccinated.

Wednesday, he announced city health care workers will soon have to submit to weekly COVID-19 testing if they can’t show proof of vaccination.

Union hospital workers protest NewYork-Presbyterian’s vaccine mandate

https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs...zf7zgMecrJT1G4

Hospital workers with 1199 Service Employees International Union (SEIU) rallied Thursday against NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s vaccination mandate.

Pharmacist John Simonian joined hundreds of members of his union protesting outside the hospital.

“Force is not the answer, and mandate forcing people at the barrel of a gun is not right,” Simonian said.

Simonian has been a pharmacist with the hospital for 35 years. He said the hospital’s mandate that all employees get vaccinated is a slippery slope.

“If you force to do one thing in one area, there’s a possibility you can force me to do something in another area,” Simonian said.

I admit, I've never really been a big fan of de Blasio, but I agree with him 100% here. I'm glad to see he's coming to his senses and doing the right thing.

He gave the hospital workers the choice of a weekly test instead. Anyone who is against the vaccine will take that option, and they are probably being tested anyway.

Does the Bronx have a ~45% vaccination rate? Is living in tax-subsidizing housing the next angle they'll use to force people to take an unapproved vaccine of dubious value to anyone not in a high-risk group?

At this point if you haven't gotten at least one shot and you're working in Healthcare it should primarily be because of allergies to components.

From my understanding, they cannot mandate the vaccine only at this point because the vaccines are not officially FDA approved yet. Therefore, they must include an alternative option to get tested weekly. Therefore, no, NYPD will NOT be mandated to get the vaccine. But the NYPD could be forced to make a choice between the vaccine or weekly testing.

Forcing people to take a vaccine against something that is fully survivable by most. Sounds so Soviet.

there will be a black market to get around vaccine.

Imagine trusting FDA or any government party. Stupefying.

Yep. It's get the vaccine or get a covid test, weekly.

No more options: All NYC municipal workers must get COVID-19 vaccine before September, de Blasio says

https://www.amny.com/health/no-more-...e-blasio-says/

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday that all employees of the City of New York will be required to be vaccinated by September, as the spread of Covid-19 ramps up and a disconcerting amount of city employees remain unvaccinated.

The order will require all 340,000 municipal employees to get the jab by Sept. 13 — the first day of school for public school students — or submit to weekly mandatory Covid testing.
