My grandfather is an 88 year old mets fan who used to be a dodgers fan. he is still mad they left- but was thrilled when the mets beat them in the 2015 nlds.
That's hilarious. I'm a die hard Mets fan. I hope your grandfather hasn't been watching them lately .
Back in the 1980s there was a very nice sports bar on 3 Avenue in Bay Ridge called 'The Brooklyn Dodger'. The Los Angeles Dodgers sued them over the use of the 'Brooklyn Dodger' name which the LA Dodgers apparently still owned at the time. The Brooklyn Dodger bar is long gone but I can't find a closing date for it.
I think that the Dodgers wanted the area where the Barclays Center is now. If so, then not available anymore. But the site could have been a little farther north, to encompass where the PC Richard and Son and Modell's sit now.
The neighborhood around Ebbets Field (near Sullivan Place & Bedford Ave) was becoming a slum by the mid-1950s. O'Malley wanted to build a domed stadium over the LIRR terminal which was private property at the time owned by the Pennsylvania Railroad. It's a long complicated story but if anyone is to blame for the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn it was Robert Moses. The offer from Los Angeles was too good to turn down. A brand new stadium with acres of parking in a clean growing city.
I'm sure there are some fans for every team but does anyone have a feel for how many? When LA plays the Mets are Dodger Fans evident? Of course many may be aged and less mobile so that wouldn't be the only indicator.
Have the Mets been a satisfactory replacement? Obviously the Dodgers have been more successful win wise and money wise.
Do you like the any of the Met's stadiums over the years? The Dodgers have had just one since 1962.
As people die off who were in Brooklyn with the Dodgers, It would be nice to preserve history.
I had a friend who passed away recently and she was a life long Dodgers fan, she was 54 when she passed and I know her remaining family members are also big fans!

When I go back there I sometimes go where the ballpark was Sullivan- Bedford sts and I've asked people if they knew who played there. Each time less and less people know.
I go to Queens when the Dodgers are in town a lot. I'm a big fan. There are a lot of Dodgers fans that show up. I'm not sure if they a high % are actually from NYC area but they def have a high # of fans at the game.
Meanwhile the Mets have sucked their way out of the playoffs and could finish below .500
